The nineteen adults who signed the charter for Ebenezer were all Swedish-speaking people born in Finland (except two women born in Sweden). Most had settled in the Midwest before coming to Hartford, known as “Swede Town” for nearly forty years. The first pastor was the Rev. John Gullans.
